Vladimir Putin calls BRICS as key element of emerging multipolar world order
BRICS is one of the key elements of the new world order that takes into account the interests of all states, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, speaking at the 10th Parliamentary Forum of the association.
“BRICS is one of the key elements of the emerging multipolar world order, which increasingly reflects the interests and aspirations of the states of both the global South and the East. We are open to strengthening cooperation with all countries expressing interest in the group’s activities, we are engaged in an active dialogue in the BRICS plus/outreach format, and are working to establish a category of partner states”

He pointed out that the goal of Russia’s current chairmanship in the association is to create favourable conditions for the progressive development of all its members. Vladimir Putin reminded that BRICS already includes 10 countries, each of which has its own ancient culture and traditions and implements its own model of socio-economic and political development. The President assured that Russia is making every effort to ensure that the new members of the association are effectively integrated into all its multidisciplinary mechanisms.
After the speech, Vladimir Putin held a meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The conversation took place in the negotiation hall of the Tavrichesky Palace.
“Please tell me that we are waiting for Chairman of the People’s Republic of China (Xi Jinping – editor’s note) in Kazan, Russia at the BRICS summit on 22-24 October,” Putin addressed Zhao Leji.
On the margins of the forum, the Russian leader held a separate meeting with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Chairman of the Assembly of the Islamic Council of Iran.
“The work within today’s event of the BRICS inter-parliamentary dimension will be very useful and it is timely, which is most important. Iran is starting full-fledged work within the framework of this association, we are very happy about it, together with you we jointly organised Iran’s accession to BRICS,” the Russian president said.
Azerbaijan wants to become a full member of BRICS, the country’s Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said, speaking at the plenary session of the forum.
“Azerbaijan promotes dialogue, cooperation and solidarity in its foreign policy. This applies both to bilateral relations and activities within international platforms. In particular, it also applies to cooperation with BRICS,” the Azerbaijani speaker said.
Speaking at the forum, Speaker of the Council of the Republic (Upper House) of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalia Kochanova expressed the opinion that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and the BRICS group have everything necessary to become the foundation of a new just world order.
The 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum is taking place in St. Petersburg on 11-12 July.
