Vladimir Putin attends EAEU summit

This is the first international meeting of the President after his inauguration

The 10th anniversary summit of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) has started in Moscow. It is attended by the leaders of the Eurasian group – the presidents of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan (Vladimir Putin, Alexander Lukashenko, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Sadyr Japarov) and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council will meet on 8 May in an expanded and narrow composition. The first part will also be attended by the heads of observer states, namely Uzbekistan and Cuba. Cuban leader Miguel Diaz-Canel will attend the EAEU summit in person for the first time.

The meeting is timed to the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union. The heads of state will review the results of the organisation’s activities over 10 years, discuss the formation of the EAEU as a reputable international association. They will exchange views on further deepening of integration processes. The adoption of several important documents is planned.

On 7 May, Vladimir Putin took office as President of Russia after taking the oath of office in the Grand Kremlin Palace. The elected head of state will be in office for another six years – until 2030.
