Vietnam and South Africa agree on cooperation at Pretoria forum

Both sides welcome development of bilateral relations

The 6th Vietnam-South Africa Intergovernmental Partnership Forum, co-chaired by the two countries’ Deputy Foreign Ministers Nguyen Minh Hang and Anna Thandi Moraka, was held in Pretoria, South Africa. The main topic of discussion was the development of comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in the future.

The forum, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of its existence, was also related to the establishment of the Partnership for Cooperation and Development, the first and only partnership framework between Vietnam and South Africa, as reported by
Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Moraka highlighted Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development and its growing role in the international arena. He stressed the importance of strengthening ties with Vietnam in the political, economic and trade fields, as well as promoting cooperation on issues related to the global influence of developing countries. In turn, Hang expressed his appreciation for South Africa’s achievements, stressing Vietnam’s priority in expanding the bilateral partnership.

The officials also discussed the possibility of activating economic and investment cooperation, including trade delegations, exploring a free trade agreement between Vietnam and the Southern African Customs Union, as well as expanding cooperation in emerging areas such as the halal industry, renewable energy and agriculture.

Vietnam and South Africa agreed to further strengthen cooperation in international forums, such as the UN, ASEAN and the African Union, supporting the principle of multipolarity and international law.
