The technologies are being implemented as part of the G20 Global Initiative on Reducing Land Degradation
The United Arab Emirates is playing a leading role in supporting and developing soil salinisation technologies to help combat desertification and rehabilitate degraded land in the Arab world. This was stated by Mahmoud Fathallah, Director of the Department of Environmental Affairs and Meteorology.
The UAE, along with Saudi Arabia, is actively developing and implementing soil salinisation technologies to address these problems. This is reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.
Soil salinisation is an effective method to rehabilitate degraded land and increase agricultural productivity.
Moreover, in the fight against desertification, the UAE continues to expand its protected areas, which now number 49 and cover 15.5 per cent of the country’s territory, and to introduce tree planting initiatives. In this context, the country has committed to planting an additional 100 million mangrove tree seedlings by 2030.
