UAE involves local residents in the naming of roads and streets

The initiative aligns with the authorities’ goal of preserving and promoting cultural heritage

The Dubai Road Naming Committee, the organisation that names roads and streets in the emirate, has launched an online platform for public participation in naming them. This was reported by
Emirates News Agency (WAM), a partner of TV BRICS.

“The new platform serves as a digital system, allowing the public to suggest names for streets and roads across Dubai. It aims to revive valuable historical meanings, heritage, and urban monuments,” said Dawoud Al-Hajri, Director-General of Dubai Municipality and Chairman of the Dubai Road Naming Committee.

The authority has also developed proposals for naming sites based on classifications related to Arabic and Islamic design, architecture, art, culture, and Arabic poetic prosody.

Residents of the emirate will also be able to suggest names for natural phenomena, marine and terrestrial plants, birds and animals, and archaeological sites.
