The Zimbabwean government has approved the supply of treated water to South Africa
Zimbabwe’s Cabinet has approved a proposal by a water treatment plant in the border town of Beitbridge to sell water to the South African town of Musina in Limpopo, which often experiences water supply problems. This is reported by
Pretoria News, a partner of TV BRICS.
The two towns share the land border between South Africa and Zimbabwe and are home to one of Africa’s busiest ports, which is also used as a gateway from South Africa to the African continent.
The statement, which was presented at a press briefing after a cabinet meeting by Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting, Jenfan Muswere, emphasised that treated water will soon be sent to Musina town from the Beitbridge Water Treatment Plant in Zimbabwe.
The benefits of this agreement include the following: improved co-operation and water management as well as improved living standards for the people of Zimbabwe by generating much-needed foreign exchange.
It will further strengthen the strong friendly ties between the two neighbouring countries in the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The move paves the way for the two councils to collaborate on a number of areas aimed at boosting economic development on both sides of the border.
