The Iranian yellow deer is listed as an endangered species on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.

Camera traps accidentally captured a female deer with her calf, which is estimated to be three months old, indicating that the yellow deer was born during their natural breeding season, from February to March. This is reported by
IRNA, a partner of TV BRICS.

There is now hope for the resurgence of this rare animal species in its native environment, thanks to the birth of the yellow deer.

The birth serves as evidence that the Department of Environment’s (DOE) strategy to restore yellow deer populations in the National Park’s woodlands is working.

It was thought that yellow deer species were gone worldwide almost fifty years ago. The source mentioned that 4 yellow deer were sighted in the woodlands of Dez and Karkheh approximately 50 years ago.

IRNA also reported that the number of yellow deer in the region has increased by 30 per cent year over year to 118, including deer that have been taken alive and those that have been relocated to other provinces. Of these, 95 have been identified.

It’s anticipated that this year’s growth of this precious species will increase by 30 per cent, indicating that all biological requirements have been satisfied. Approximately 25 new deer will join the current population.
