The UAE extends the Year of Sustainability
The announcement was made by UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan
UAE Minister of Environment Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, confirmed that the “Year of Sustainability” has been extended until 2024, on the instructions of the State’s President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The extension will aim to consolidate the UAE’s achievements in the field and increase its contribution to addressing global climate challenges.
On the 27th National Environment Day, held under the theme “Together for a Sustainable Local Product”, UAE Minister of Environment Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi called for the cooperation of various stakeholders from the public, private sectors and society to protect the environment. This is reported by ANI, a partner of TV BRICS.
This year’s theme will focus on engaging with local producers and the community.
Local produce plays a critical role in promoting the health of the nation and the environment. Choosing to source local produce not only ensures sustainable access to quality and nutritious food for UAE residents, but also actively promotes the growth of local businesses.
This year’s National Environment Day builds on the success of COP28 held in the UAE last year, where food systems took centre stage in climate negotiations and progress.
National Environment Day activities will continue until World Environment Day on 5 June.
