Tehran and Moscow finalise draft contract to implement agreement on construction of Rasht-Astara Railway

According to the contract, Iranian contractors will fully realise the infrastructure of the railway line

In a meeting held between Deputy Minister of Russian Railways Sergey Pavlov and Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali, the two sides paid special attention to the preparation of the contract for the implementation of the agreement on the construction of Rasht-Astara Railway.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed ways to develop transport within the framework of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC).

The two sides also reviewed the trends of bilateral cooperation regarding the construction of Rasht-Astara railway within INSTC, Iran’s Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said. This is reported by
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

During the meeting, the deputy minister of Russian Railways admitted that the volume of containerised cargo traffic from the eastern side of the ITC through “Sarakhs” and “Incheh boroun” customs increased by 400 per cent in the first quarter of the current year (January-March) compared to the same period last year.

This road will connect the land parts of the North-South international transport corridor, and Russian and Iranian goods will have greater access to foreign markets.

Pavlov added that negotiations are ongoing between Tehran and Moscow to determine the tariff for transporting chemical fertilisers and coal from Russia to Iran, the United Arab Emirates and India.
