South Africa’s population grows by more than 835,000 in one year

Life expectancy has increased in the country

The population of South Africa is 63 million people, as reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS, citing Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).

Analysts point out that the country’s population grew by 835,513 over the year to 63.02 million, a 1.33 per cent increase from July 2023 to July 2024.

More than half of the population is female, totalling about 32 million, Stats SA said in a statement.

Gauteng province remains the country’s most populous region with nearly 16 million residents. KwaZulu-Natal is in second place with 12.3 million. The two provinces contain about 45 per cent of South Africa’s population. The least populated region is the Northern Cape, with 1.4 million people.

Stats SA says life expectancy in South Africa has increased significantly due to advances in medicine, public health and socio-economic development.
