Saudi Arabia introduces innovative date palm irrigation technology

The achievement is a new step in a national initiative to promote agricultural research

Saudi Arabia has introduced an innovative technology to irrigate date palms using wastewater from fish farms. This method has proven to be incredibly effective, increasing yields and improving the quality of dates. This is reported by
Arab News.

Studies have shown that nutrients from fish farm wastewater, especially ammonia, increase soil fertility and date palm yields.

Dates grown using this method are larger in size and have significantly higher sugar, mineral, and vitamin content.

Using wastewater from fish farms to irrigate date palms has many benefits, including improving soil fertility, reducing the cost of synthetic fertilisers, saving water, increasing farmers’ income, and creating a closed-loop economic system.
