Russia’s Krasnodar and Iran’s Qeshm sign memorandum of understanding
The Persian Gulf island of Qeshm and Krasnodar in Russia have established sister-city relationships, as documented in a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at an official ceremony held in Russia.
The MOU was signed by the mayors of Qeshm and Krasnodar, Mirdad Mirdadi and Evgeny Naumov. This is reported by
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
According to the document, Qeshm and Krasnodar will intensify co-operation in the fields of construction, education and cultural exchange. The mayor of Qeshm noted the importance of further developing co-operation, emphasising the strong ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation.
Mirdadi drew attention to Qeshm’s geographical position as the largest island in the Persian Gulf, emphasising its role in the North-South Corridor that connects Russia to open waters via Iran. He also signalled the island’s readiness to transport and load cargo for Russia through the international North-South route.
Qeshm attracts more than three million tourists annually and the mayor highlighted its tourist and natural attractions, which confirms its potential as an important tourist destination.
Naumov expressed the need to strengthen ties in the tourism and construction sectors.
“Qeshm is a free economic zone and also a promising centre of attraction for tourists. In spring, we already discussed the potential of our ties online. These include contacts between higher education institutions, constant exchange of students, business and cultural partnership, co-operation in the construction and tourism spheres. Today we have documented our readiness to work together”
