Russian university students participate in competition on Chinese culture
Representatives from 12 educational institutions competed for victory
A competition on knowledge of Chinese culture was held in Moscow to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moscow and Beijing. The event was organised by the Confucius Institute of the Russian State University for the Humanities (RSUH) with support from the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Embassy in Russia. The event took place at the Chinese Cultural Centre.
The competition featured 30 participants from 12 Russian universities and Confucius Institutes located in Moscow, Vladimir, Volgograd, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Ryazan.
The event was attended by 150 guests, including representatives of diplomatic missions and universities. The jury consisted of experts on China and Chinese culture from RSUH and Confucius Institutes across Russia.
The competition, conducted in both online and offline formats, covered a variety of topics, including the structure of the Chinese government, Chinese history, literature, music, calligraphy, and traditional festivals. All tasks were conducted entirely in Chinese.
Following the theoretical portion, students from both countries presented a cultural programme featuring Chinese songs, dances, and instrumental performances.
Cao Shihai, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the Russian Federation, reminded the audience that hundreds of events are planned as part of the cross-cultural years between the two nations. The diplomat expressed hope that Russian students would continue their studies in China, where they could experience the country’s rich culture and warm hospitality.
Meanwhile, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Russia Feng Litao thanked the competition participants for their interest in Chinese culture and emphasised the importance of such events in strengthening Sino-Russian ties.
