Russian House in Chennai showcases cutting edge robotics

The event was attended by local schoolchildren and students

The Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Chennai, India, hosted the Days of Robotics and Innovative Educational Technologies. The event was organised by the Federal Agency for the Affairs of the Commonwealth of Independent States (Rossotrudnichestvo) together with the South-West State University (Kursk, Russia).

The two-day programme of the event included interactive master classes on virtual reality, programming, and drone control. The guests of the Russian House were also told about the role of robots in space exploration.

More than 500 local schoolchildren attended these events with interest and were able to share their impressions of the innovations and their vision of the future of high technology.

On the second day, the events continued at the Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology, whose students were also able to learn about the cutting-edge achievements of Russian science and education.

According to Aleksander Dodonov, Director of the Russian House in Chennai, scientific and technical cooperation has traditionally occupied a special place in Russian-Indian relations.

“Joint projects of specialists from the two countries in areas such as space exploration, aviation, biotechnology, information technology and many others continue to strengthen bilateral ties. I would particularly like to emphasise the important role of South India in this relationship. Projects like the Kudankulam nuclear power plant have become symbols of successful cooperation between our states in high-tech fields,” Dodonov said.

He added that the robotics days have become an important step in popularising science among the youth. The interest shown in the event demonstrates the openness of Indian society to co-operation with Russia in the field of innovation.

“We are confident that such initiatives will further strengthen the partnership and mutual understanding between our countries,” the diplomat emphasised.
