Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson: Kazan Declaration is historic document
Maria Zakharova called BRICS a unique platform
The Kazan Declaration of the XVI BRICS summit for the first time reflects the common approaches of the BRICS member states after its expansion in early 2024. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing.
“The Kazan Declaration of Leaders adopted at the end of the XVI BRICS summit is without exaggeration a historic document. […] Thanks to the support of our partners, we have managed to consolidate the main results of joint work under the Russian presidency in all main directions: politics and security, economy and finance, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation”

In addition, the diplomat called BRICS a unique platform. According to her, the format of the association, which intentionally lacks the attributes of international organisations, including a charter and a secretariat, makes it possible to involve government agencies, business representatives and public organisations in cooperation.
The official representative of the Foreign Ministry also noted the work of TV BRICS. She emphasised that the international media network emerged as an initiative of the civil society, which was approved by the BRICS member states and has been developing for several years.
The BRICS Summit was held in Kazan on 22-24 October. The final declaration of the meeting summarised the results of the Russian presidency in the group and outlined priorities for the future.
