Russia invites 36 foreign leaders to BRICS summit

Leaders of states that chair various associations in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia have been invited

Russia has invited 36 leaders of foreign countries to the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan from 22 to 24 October 2024. 18 countries have already confirmed their presence at the event, according to Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

“We made an inspection trip to Kazan and, in general, we are satisfied with the way the preparation [for the summit] is going on there. The preparations are indeed serious, as the event is of an unprecedented scale <…> 36 heads of various states have been invited,” said Yury Ushakov, Aide to Russian President Yury Ushakov.

The senior official specified that, in addition to the BRICS member countries, the leaders of the states that chair influential regional integration associations in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Southeast Asia have been sent, as well as the heads of many countries that intend to become members of the group or establish some form of cooperation with BRICS.

According to Ushakov, this year is historic for the Russian presidency, as it is the first time that Russia has led BRICS at a time when the association has such a large number of members.

BRICS is currently drafting a “new BRICS partner state format”, indicating that countries interested in joining the association will be able to work together with the member states.
