Russia, India and Brazil emphasise importance of developing co-operation with the Gulf region’s countries

Riyadh hosts number of Foreign Ministers’ meetings

On the sidelines of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) 161st Ministerial Council heads of the Foreign Ministries of Russia, India and Brazil held a series of negotiations. This is reported by
Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

During the talks of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Albudaiwi, the Minister noted that Russia aims to foster relations with the countries of the region:

“It is an important priority for us to develop relations with the Gulf countries, both in the field of economy, technology, trade and international issues”

Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, in a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira reviewed relations between the two countries and ways to strengthen them in various fields. 

Saudi Arabian minister with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar reviewed bilateral interaction as well as discussed aspects of strengthening multilateral coordination on regional and international issues of common interest.

India’s Minister of External Affairs Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the country’s co-operation with the Gulf region:

“India and the GCC enjoy a deep and multifaceted relationship, in areas including political, trade and investment, energy cooperation, cultural and people-to-people ties”

Lavrov and Vieira discussed concrete steps to further develop Russia-Brazil strategic partnership relations.

The foreign ministers touched upon the interaction between Moscow and Brasilia at multilateral platforms, primarily at the UN, BRICS and the G20. 

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was established to enable the foreign ministers of the GCC countries, which include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates and to hold consultations on different issues. These meetings aim to strengthen strategic relations with countries and organisations worldwide.
