Russian Ambassador to India identifies major outcomes of XVI BRICS Summit

A major summit result is the introduction of a new category of partner countries

In a media briefing held at the Russian Embassy in New Delhi, Denis Alipov, the Russian Ambassador to the Republic of India, presented the outcomes of the XVI BRICS Summit, hosted in Kazan under the theme “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security”. The ambassador highlighted that the event reinforced BRICS’s role as a unifying platform for the Global South, promoting collaborative solutions amidst global challenges.

Denis Alipov noted that throughout 2023, Russia led nearly 200 BRICS-related events, covering everything from ministerial dialogues to cultural exchanges and sporting events.

According to him, a major outcome of the summit is the introduction of a new category of partner countries, allowing interested nations to join BRICS activities and further diversify the group’s global influence, especially in food and energy security.

To advance trade and sustainable development, the summit saw initiatives like the BRICS Grain Exchange, BRICS Working Group on Nuclear Medicine, and Special Economic Zones Forum.

Ambassador Alipov also spoke about future joint plans of Russia and India, highlighting priority areas of cooperation.

“Russia remains the largest contributor to India’s energy and food security and will prioritise long-term contracts for crude, coal, and LNG as well as fertilisers; expand investments in infrastructure, oil refining, petrochemicals, and energy transition,” he said.

Furthermore, Denis Alipov claimed that trade between Russia and India reached US$65 billion in 2023, with ambitions to achieve US$100 billion by 2030.
