On the sidelines of the BRICS Foreign Ministers‘ Meeting in Nizhny Novgorod, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov said that Russia supports Belarus’ accession to the association. 

“We in Moscow, of course, 150 per cent support the application of Belarus,” Sergey Ryabkov, deputy head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

He also noted that Belarus’ accession to BRICS will give a new impetus and additional opportunities for work in three main areas politics and security, economy and finance, as well as humanitarian ties and cultural interaction. 

Sergey Ryabkov expressed confidence in the strength and significance of Belarus in all these aspects. For his part, Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergey Aleinik hopes that the decisions of the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan in October will allow Minsk to obtain a new status in this association.
