Russia and Brazil celebrate 196 years of diplomatic relations
The countries actively cooperate within the framework of the BRICS group, covering areas such as the economy, trade, culture, and education
Today marks 196 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brazil, according to the official website of the Russian
embassy in Brazil.
On 3 October 1828, a decree was signed appointing the first Russian envoy to the country, Franz Borel, but the formation of ties between Russia and Brazil began in 1811 with the appointment of the first Russian consulate general in Rio de Janeiro.
Throughout the history of Russian-Brazilian relations, mutual respect and interest in each other’s history, culture, and traditions have remained unchanged, which demonstrates the two countries’ willingness to maintain cooperation at various levels.
Today, the Russian-Brazilian partnership has a strategic character and shows constant positive dynamics.
The Brazilian ambassador to Russia, Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares, noted the strength of the collaboration between the countries at a concert in honour of Brazil’s Independence Day.
“This is why we have promoted a series of initiatives in the cultural field over the years, not just in music but also in the arts, for the benefit of both countries,” he emphasised.
The depth and strength of this relationship are evidenced by the various initiatives the countries have worked on in recent years. This effort is most clearly demonstrated by cooperation in the scientific, educational, and cultural spheres, according to the diplomat’s statement.
In recent decades, the two countries have worked actively within the framework of the BRICS group, covering various spheres, from the economy and trade to the exchange of experience in culture and education.
International cooperation between Russia and Brazil has traditionally been based on jointly addressing issues on the global agenda: protecting the environment, sharing innovative technologies, and ensuring international information security.
Brazil and Russia are actively expanding trade and economic ties, and the mutual flow of investments between the countries is growing.
196 years of diplomatic relations between Russia and Brazil are proof of long-term, sustainable cooperation based on mutual respect, the pursuit of the common good, and prosperity.
