Representative of WHO notes that African countries make significant progress in providing quality health services to their citizens

World Health Day is celebrated annually on 7 April

In his call to action on World Health Day, Matshidiso Moeti, a World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for Africa, emphasised the urgent need for African governments to increase access to quality health care for all citizens.

Moeti highlighted the progress African countries have made in improving health care over the past two decades. Notable achievements include increased life expectancy for women, reduced maternal mortality rates and significant gains in the fight against various diseases. This is reported by
Daily News Egypt, a partner of TV BRICS.

Moeti commended African Governments for their commitment to health policy reforms, including the establishment of national health insurance schemes aimed at reducing financial barriers to health care.

She stressed the importance of social health insurance programmes in addressing inequalities in access to health services and advancing efforts to eliminate life-threatening diseases across the continent.
