The parties discussed the prospects of the bank’s co-operation with the BRICS countries

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Dilma Rousseff, President of the BRICS New Development Bank. The meeting took place on the margins of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Special attention was paid to the topic of developing multipolarity and strengthening its economic base. Putin noted that the bank has managed to do a lot under Rousseff’s leadership.

Russian President conveyed his best wishes to the Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and announced an upcoming telephone conversation with him to discuss bilateral ties. Putin also expressed hope for Lula’s participation in the autumn BRICS summit in Kazan.

Bank President Dilma Rousseff said she believes the transition to a multipolar world order is crucial and the NDB’s goal is to provide the necessary investments to developing countries.

“The multipolar world is certainly also reflected in national currencies, which is also another compromise, another commitment of the bank to attract and settle in national currencies”
