President Ramaphosa congratulates Trump on his win

President Cyril Ramaphosa has joined world leaders to congratulate Donald Trump after he has been elected as the 47th United States President.

Ramaphosa says he looks forward to continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership with the US and South Africa.

Trump has defeated Kamala Harris of the Democrats in the hotly contested polls.

Some commentators say Trump’s administration regarding Africa will take transactional approach and mainly economic issues related to the continent.

President Ramaphosa says he looks forward to South Africa taking over the G20 Presidency, where they will work closely with the US who will succeed Pretoria as the next chair of the global forum in 2026.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has also congratulated Trump saying he is keen to strengthen relationships.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Trump’s historic return offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.

Meanwhile, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says this has been an amazing victory and Trump will make America strong at home and abroad.
