PAC liberation struggle stalwart Myoli’s remains reburied

A Special Provincial Official Funeral Service was held in Gugulethu, Cape Town for Madoda Myoli, a PAC liberation struggle stalwart.

He passed away in Zimbabwe in 1989 and his remains were repatriated to South Africa in September this year.

Friends and comrades packed the community hall for the funeral service of a freedom fighter.

Madado Myoli went into exile in 1979 to join the Azanian People’s Liberation Army, the military wing of the PAC.

He served on the APLA High Command as Deputy Chief of Security and Intelligence.

Myoli has been described as dedicated and courageous…

“Madoda Sijekula Anthony Myoli’s legacy lives on in the hearts of those who continue to fight for the ideals he so passionately believed in. His sacrifice will never be forgotten, and he will forever be remembered as a true soldier of the revolution, a professional military officer, and a martyr,” says his sister Phunyeza Vutuza.

Struggle stalwart Madoda Myoli’s remains reburied:

“As the PAC we promised Madoda, we said to him, ‘We are leaving you on foreign soil for now, but the day will come when we’ll come and fetch you.’ For us who were there in exile burying Madoda and singing the revolutionary songs with the hope that yes we will take Madoda home one day, our prayers have been answered,” says Lulu Siwisa a retired military general and friend.

Myoli was born in the Bo-Kaap in Cape Town but his family was forcibly relocated to Gugulethu under the Group Areas Act.

The PAC president and current Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development, Mzwanele Nyhontso, also addressed his funeral service.

Various government departments and foreign countries worked together to repatriate the remains of freedom fighters who died abroad during the liberation struggle.

“We continue to mourn the loss of a freedom fighter. We continue to mourn because this has been an unusually prolonged mourning, because they have always hoped that he would return home. This occasion is a moment of closure for Madoda’s family and for the nation a moment of profound acknowledgement of sacrifices for the ideals for which we fought,” adds Deidre Baartman, the MEC of Finance in the Western Cape.

Myoli’s family finally has closure.

His mortal remains have been laid to rest in the country of his birth.
