Obed Bapela removed from International Relations Sub-committee

The ANC has relieved Obed Bapela of his duties as deputy chair of the party’s International Relations Sub-committee.

Bapela has also been booted out as the member of the Sub-committee.

This after he contradicted the ANC policy on Western Sahara.

Bapela met with Moroccan delegation where he called for strengthening of economic and trade relations between South Africa and Morocco.

ANC wants Morocco to stop occupying Western Sahara.

The ANC says Obed Bapela has failed to give account of why he met Moroccans and why this should not be considered to be violation of ANC policies and principles.

The party says senior members are expected to act with discipline, understanding the sensitivity and significance of their roles.

ANC also says party secretary general Fikile Mbalula will refer this matter to the Chief National Presenter to prepare for disciplinary action against Bapela for violating the party’s constitution and not complying with ANCs resolution, calling for Morocco to stop occupying Western Sahara.
