Number of ASEAN students learning in China is on rise

Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Centre, noted the importance of education as a key element of China-ASEAN interaction

In 2023, the number of Chinese students learning in ASEAN countries and ASEAN students in China surpassed 175,000, indicating growing exchanges between the younger generations of both sides. Such figures were announced at the ongoing 2024 Education Cooperation Week in China’s Guizhou Province.

Shi Zhongjun, Secretary General of the ASEAN-China Centre, highlighted the importance of education as a key element of China-ASEAN engagement. He emphasised that training is the foundation for the development of both China and ASEAN countries. In recent years, cooperation in education at all levels has continued to develop, bringing significant results in training and scientific and technological cooperation.

The 2024 Education Cooperation Week runs from August 20 to 25 and includes more than 70 planned activities, organisers said. The event is organised by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Education, as well as the Guizhou provincial government. This is reported by
Xinhua News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

Since its inception in 2008, the Education Co-operation Week has developed into a high-level platform to help strengthen China-ASEAN relations.
