Nizhny Novgorod to host Forum of BRICS twinning cities and municipalities

The event will bring together representatives of public organisations and municipalities of the BRICS countries

From 9 to 10 July, Nizhny Novgorod will host the Forum of BRICS twinning cities and municipalities. The event is organised by the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Region together with Rossotrudnichestvo under Russia’s chairmanship in the association.

The Forum will be a platform for exchanging views and discussing initiatives in key areas of development to strengthen ties between municipalities of the BRICS countries. It will bring together representatives of government bodies, public organisations and youth movements of the BRICS countries, experts in education, architecture, ecology and culture.

“The regional government pays great attention to the development of inter-municipal co-operation. In addition, the municipalities themselves are actively seeking to find new partners, especially among the BRICS member countries. Of the 70 twin municipalities in Nizhny Novgorod, there are already seven in China and one in Brazil. I am convinced that Nizhny Novgorod hospitality, the region’s rich history and cultural diversity will contribute to the success of the Forum and intensify the region’s cooperation with the BRICS countries,” said Olga Guseva, Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod Region.

The participants of the event will discuss the quality of urban life, economic development of municipalities, architecture of modern cities and agglomerations, digitalisation of the urban environment, environmental problems and ways to solve them, as well as the development of cooperation with municipalities of BRICS countries in the sphere of education, culture, sports and youth parliamentarism.

The guests of the forum will be given an opportunity to sign twinning agreements for further co-operation between municipalities of the BRICS countries.
