New phase of vaccination against COVID-19 begins in Brazil

In Rio de Janeiro, a vaccination campaign against COVID-19 for the XBB, Omicron subtype, is being launched

In the first phase, the campaign targets the elderly aged 85 years and older. Other age groups will be covered in the coming weeks, in phases, according to the Ministry of Health’s vaccine dose delivery schedule.

Updating the COVID-19 vaccination against the predominant strain will be crucial to control disease rates, as is the case every year with influenza. This is reported by
Toda Palavra, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to municipal health secretary Daniel Soranz, people “should keep an eye on the calendar so they don’t miss the date of the new dose, which tends to become annual. We cannot give the disease a single chance.”

At this stage, the campaign will also reach elderly people hospitalised in long-term care facilities for the elderly (ILPI), regardless of their age.
