National Women’s Hockey League is set up in India
The initiative will help attract youngsters to the sport
India will host the first two rounds of the National Women’s Hockey League from 2024-2025. All the matches will be held at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Hockey Stadium.
The National Women’s Hockey League will be the first such initiative in India, notes
ANI, a partner of TV BRICS. It will feature teams that finished in the top eight at the 14th Indian National Women’s Hockey Championship.
This project will help attract youngsters below 21 years of age to the sport, the agency notes. By setting up such a league, the Indian sports industry is reaffirming its commitment to promoting gender equality in sports.
“The National Women’s Hockey League marks a watershed moment for Indian hockey, particularly for our women players. This league is a testament to our unwavering commitment to women’s sports and will catalyze the growth and development of women’s hockey in the country,” said Hockey India Secretary General Bhola Nath Singh.
