More than thousand athletes to take part in the Sakhalin Ski Marathon
The route is laid along the sea coast
The XXVI Sakhalin Ski Marathon in memory of Igor Farkhutdinov will take place in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on 8-9 March. One of the largest sporting events in the Far East will bring together professionals and amateur skiers from all over the country. TV BRICS is the international media partner of the event.
The marathon programme includes 30 and 50 kilometre races in classic and free style, as well as 5 kilometre races for young participants and amateurs. According to the results of the competition there will be an awarding ceremony for the winners and prize-winners of the marathon. In addition, the organisers are preparing an entertainment programme for fans.
At present the track is fully prepared for the races: specialists have completed the preparation of the 30-kilometre and 50-kilometre distances, providing optimal conditions for racers. Special attention has been paid to safety and quality of the track.
Aleksander Legkov, Olympic champion in cross-country skiing and ambassador of the Sakhalin Ski Marathon, will be one of the guests of the event. He will cover a distance of 50 kilometres and hold a master class for local athletes.
‘The presence of athletes of such level at the competitions and communication of the children with the champions give an incentive for them to show excellent results,” emphasised the Marathon’s Director Mikhail Shamsutdinov.
The route of the Sakhalin Ski Marathon is laid along the sea coast. Athletes from 51 subjects of the Russian Federation and 187 cities will take part in the race. The competition has already broken the record in the number of applications, more than a thousand athletes have submitted them. The organiser of the marathon is the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region.
