South African Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, has said that the government foresees significant economic benefits for the country’s tourism and hospitality industries from South Africa’s presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20). This is reported by

South Africa began its G20 presidency on 1 December, becoming the first African country to take over the presidency of the group. 

At a press briefing following the Cabinet meeting, Ntshavheni noted that more than 130 meetings are planned for the South African presidency 

“We anticipate an economic boost in areas such as tourism and hospitality,” she said.

The minister emphasised that all nine provinces in the country will benefit from the G20 by hosting either ministerial or working groups. 

“Hosting the G20 offers our nation an unprecedented opportunity to position South Africa as a global force for driving inclusive economic growth, employment and reduced inequality in a sustainable manner,” she added.

According to the minister, South Africa would host the G20 Social to facilitate broader participation from civil society. 

South Africa took over the presidency from Brazil on 1 December. The African government says some key G20 meetings are scheduled for December, with the first working meetings taking place on 9-10 December in Gauteng province.
