MK Party to unveil plans marking first year anniversary

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) is holding a media briefing in Durban today to announce its activities ahead of its first anniversary.

December marks a year since former President Jacob Zuma announced the formation of the party.

Based in KwaZulu-Natal, the newcomer to South Africa’s political landscape obtained the most votes in the province following the May 29th general elections.

Despite this, a Government of Provincial Unity (GPU) was formed between the the African National Congress (ANC), the Democratic Alliance (DA), the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and the National Freedom Party (NFP).

The MK Party holds 58 seats at national government level.

New members 

Over the past few months, Zuma’s brainchild has seen top-ranking politicians joining the organisation.

ANC veteran Willies Mchunu and former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP Busisiwe Mkhwebane, were unveiled as new members by the party last month.

Prominent former EFF MPs Floyd Shivambu and Advocate Dali Mpofu have also joined the organisation.
