Mboweni’s remains to arrive in Haenertsburg this afternoon

The family of former Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has confirmed that his body will arrive at the Roman Catholic Church in Haenertsburg, Limpopo this afternoon.

The body will lie in state before it is taken to his home village of Sasekane near Nkowankowa for public viewing.

Mboweni died in a Johannesburg hospital in Johannesburg last weekend at the age of 65.

His niece Nhlamulo Mboweni says, “Today what is basically going to happen is that we are waiting for the people from Joburg to come to Limpopo with the remains of Mr Mboweni, and then they will start at Magoebaskloof and come down to the home village in Sasekani with the body.”

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the eulogy at the Special Official Funeral Category 2.

The South African Police Service’s ceremonial elements will feature at the funeral service.

GCIS spokesperson William Baloyi says the funeral will also be attended by former President Thabo Mbeki and Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

The family has appealed to the public to go to the Nkowankowa stadium instead of the family home, to afford them privacy during their time of mourning.
