Mbeki calls on ANC to take action to rectify election outcomes

Former African National Congress (ANC) President Thabo Mbeki says the party should make necessary contributions to rectify the outcomes of the general elections.

Mbeki adds that the planned national dialogue by President Cyril Ramaphosa will assist in rebuilding and unity. He was speaking on a two-day Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) Renewal Convocation in Welkom, Free State.

The ANC is still working on rebuilding following the outcomes of the general elections. Former President Mbeki returned to the province to check the PEC’s position on taking the movement forward.

In his speech, Mbeki stressed that the ANC should take seriously the statement by the population and that National leadership should take a firm stand on renewal.

He also says the challenges faced by the ANC in the Free State, stem from a lack of renewal. “We need to go back to the drawing board and heed the call by the population by doing what is right.”

The PEC admits that the ANC has not been acting accordingly due to a lack of intentionality. ANC Chairperson Mxolisi Dukwana says actions should be aligned accordingly to achieve desired outcomes.

“We don’t need a dysfunctional ANC. We must work together and be intentional and deliberate.”

Mbeki says he will make a follow-up visit to ensure that the PEC has implemented renewal and rebuilding of the party.
