Malaysia to strengthen global supply chains through ASEAN

This will encourage greater cross-border investment, especially with China and the Middle East

Malaysia, as ASEAN chair in 2025, is set to strengthen the region as a centre for investment, trade and industry, with a focus on strengthening the resilience of global supply chains. Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry Zafrul Abdul Aziz emphasised the importance of attracting the right investments to Southeast Asia during his address at the fifth Global Partnership Chairs Summit in Kuala Lumpur.

The country is looking to increase investment in manufacturing, especially in electric vehicles, semiconductors and the digital economy. It should also boost cross-border investment, especially with China and the Middle East, according to Vietnam News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

As chair of ASEAN, Malaysia will promote policies to enhance affordability and inclusive participation in the economy. Its strategy will focus on four key areas: increasing intra-regional trade, creating a sustainable future, strengthening economic integration and building the region’s digital resilience.
