Malaysia believes country can gain economic benefits from close engagement with BRICS
Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) envisages that the country can reap various
economic benefits through closer cooperation with the BRICS countries.
One of the major benefits is the opportunity to use BRICS as a platform to air its views on regional economic issues through dialogues, forums and discussions with the states of the group. This is reported by Bernama.
MITI said participating in such dialogues will allow the country to diversify and strengthen its strategic relationship with the group’s members: “Malaysia can seise the opportunity to enhance economic ties with countries such as Brazil, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates in strategic sectors like the Halal industry, biodiversity, and sustainable development.”
Earlier, Malaysia sent Russia a letter of intent to join BRICS.
