Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva received South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in Brasilia. The meeting between the two heads of state was the occasion for a discussion on South Africa’s leadership of the G20 in 2025 and Brazil’s future BRICS presidency.

The two leaders also discussed the resumption of meetings of IBSA, a group that brings together Brazil, India and South Africa, and the financing of conservation activities. This was reported by
Brasil 247, a partner of TV BRICS.

The two sides emphasised the importance of cooperation to strengthen the representation of both countries and the Global South on issues of global interest, with a focus on sustainable development and social justice.

The South African President expressed his support for Brazilian initiatives in the G20 and Brazil, for its part, is willing to share its experience in leading the group.

Rio de Janeiro will host the G20 summit on 18 and 19 November. Brazil assumed the presidency of the group on 1 December 2023. South Africa will next take over the chairmanship of the group.
