The African National Congress (ANC) Regional Executive Committee in the Waterberg region in Limpopo has recommended that Aaron Mokgetle be removed a the Mayor of the Lephalale Municipality.
This comes after the circulation of a video in which Mokgetle expresses frustrations over working with local headmen, saying he only wanted to work with the chiefs.
Waterberg ANC spokesperson Seraka Mapeka says the Regional Executive Committee has submitted a report to the party’s provincial leadership with it recommendation.
Mapeka says, “The team came back with a report that recommended that the Mayor must be removed from his responsibility as the Mayor. According to the report, the Mayor was found at fault because as the African National Congress we will not allow a situation where our deployee wants to choose to work with the chiefs but not to work with headmen. We expect our deployees that will play a unitary role into spheres of traditional leadership.”
A traditional leader in Lephalale, Francinah Shongoane, says Mokgetle does not have a good relationship with communities.
Shongoane says, “The Mayor of the Lephalale undermines us. He don’t want to talk to, to work with us, he said he won’t work with Indunas as the headmen. We want the ANC to remove him, he undermines us while the headmen are working with the community at large.”
