Kodwa welcomes withdrawal of corruption charges

Former Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has welcomed the withdrawal of charges against him.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew corruption charges against Kodwa and his co-accused, ex-EOH Executive, Jehan Mackay.

Kodwa is accused of receiving bribes worth R1.7 million from Mackay in exchange for government tenders.

The pair was charged with violating the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities as well as the Prevention of Organised Crimes Acts.

However, the charges were dropped after the pair made representations this morning.

Kodwa addressed the media after the court decision: “Off course, I welcome it with mix feeling as you know what happened in the past. I have no doubt that the DDP to arrive at this decision, he applied his mind of facts before not what we sometimes hear on a trial court of opinion.”

“But I want to thank the millions of South Africans who prayed for us. I also want to thank the leadership of the ANC who continue to express their support, and I was visited by the leadership of the ANCYL but one of the calls that gave strength was from the former President Kgalema Motlanthe.”
