Javier Milei Takes Office as President of Argentina
The inauguration took place on 10 December
On Sunday, 10 December, Buenos Aires hosted the inauguration of Javier Milei, leader of the Freedom Advances party (La Libertad Avanza), who was elected on 19 November 2023. This is reported by

The inauguration was attended by dignitaries from the countries, including the Presidents of Armenia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador Vahagn Khachaturyan, Santiago Pena, Luis Lacalle Pou, Gabriel Boric and Daniel Noboa, King of Spain Philip VI, as well as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
From the Brazilian side, Argentina’s largest trading partner, came the country’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.
The Russian side was represented by Russian Ambassador to Argentina Dmitry Feoktistov. China sent Wu Weihua, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, to Argentina.
During the inauguration, former Argentine President Alberto Fernandez handed over to new President Javier Milei the trappings of power – a sash and a baton.
During his, he said the new government will have to resort to shock measures in the economy.
“There is no alternative to spending cuts, no alternative to shock measures,” he said in his first speech as head of state.
Argentina’s first round of presidential elections took place on 22 October. In the second round, on 19 November, the libertarian nominee of the Freedom Advances party defeated Economy Minister Sergio Massa.
