Iran’s Ghalamzani craftsmanship is globally recognised through international Geographical Indication status
This underscores Isfahan’s position as the epicentre of this ancient art form
The exquisite craft of Ghalamzani, known for its intricate engravings on metal such as copper, brass, silver and gold, has received prestigious international recognition in the form of Geographical Indication (GI).
Maj-al-Din Taj, president of the Isfahan Craftsmen’s Union explained that Galamzani first required national recognition before seeking international GI status. This is reported by
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.
With the recognition of GI’s international status, Galamzani joins other well-known Isfahan crafts such as Minakari (enamel work), Qalamkar (block printing on fabric) and Kashi Haft-Rang (seven-colored tilework), becoming the fourth craft from the region to receive this honour.
To further protect the integrity of these works of art, the Handicrafts Union plans to issue hologram stickers for verified products and post detailed information about each registered product and its creators on the Union’s website, emphasising the connection to Isfahan’s rich artistic heritage.
