Iranian researchers invent joints for soft robots
The types of robots are used in many fields, from car factories to soft robotic assistants
Iranian researchers have developed joints for soft robots that have variable hardness depending on the conditions of use.
Controlling these robots effectively has become particularly important, which has motivated Iranian researchers to develop new methods to improve their performance.
According to
ParsToday, a TV BRICS partner, a team of Iranian scientists has created a 3D printed carbon fibre structure aimed at improving the joints of “soft robots”. The technology, known as “Four-dimensional (4D) printing”, allows the structure to adapt and change its hardness depending on its environment.
Soft robots, offer several advantages over their rigid counterparts: they use less energy, are lighter and interact more smoothly with living tissue. In addition, they are cheaper to produce and have significantly faster movement speeds.
