In a strategic move to invigorate its tourism sector, Iran plans to introduce “tourist cards” for foreign visitors, aiming to simplify currency exchange during their stay. This is reported by

The announcement, made by Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts, highlights efforts to overcome challenges stemming from the absence of international credit card access and a streamlined currency exchange system.

Seyyed Reza Salehi-Amiri urged the Central Bank of Iran to expedite reforms, underscoring the untapped potential of Iran’s tourism industry. The minister identified the Persian Gulf littoral states as vital to Iran’s tourism strategy.

Strengthening ties with Saudi Arabia is also a priority, with recent progress in diplomatic relations promising new opportunities for bilateral tourism.

The introduction of the tourist card is seen as a step towards greater convenience for international travellers, showcasing Iran’s commitment to fostering cultural exchange and leveraging its rich heritage. Boasting 28 UNESCO World Heritage sites, including iconic bazaars, mosques, and ancient monuments, Iran hopes to position itself as a premier destination for global tourists.
