Iran has created a device to explore the sea at a depth of 2,120 metres. The technology of this device is only available in 14 countries, said Morteza Tavakoli, Director of the National Institute for Oceanography and Atmospheric Science.

He emphasised that conducting deep sea research in the southern and northern regions of the country requires significant financial expenditure. This is reported by

“Developing the maritime industry and strengthening the blue economy is an important task. Various institutions are involved in implementing projects in this field,” Tavakoli said, adding that the research institute is also implementing relevant programmes.

According to him, the new invention will bring benefits in other areas as well. In particular, the cost of exporting and importing goods will be significantly reduced, the country’s food security will be improved through the development of aquaculture, and the tourism industry will receive a new impetus.

Speaking about the development of the device, Tavakoli said the institute intends to further enhance Iran’s capacity and knowledge in the field of marine research. He revealed that remote-controlled underwater robots are planned for the future.
