Iran aims to increase renewable energy capacity

This was announced by country’s Energy Minister

Iran’s Energy Minister, Abbas Aliabadai, said the country plans to increase its renewable energy generation capacity to 50 gigawatts (GW) over the next five years. 

Abbas Aliabadai said the government will provide financial support and loans to households and private investors who will participate in the development of renewable energy sector in Iran. This is reported by
Mehr News Agency, a partner of TV BRICS.

“We plan to bring the production capacity from the renewable energy (sources) to 50 GW in the next five years,” said the minister while speaking at a conference on energy efficiency in Tehran.

The country’s total power generation capacity is 93-98 GW, with thermal power plants accounting for more than 75 GW.

Earlier, an Iranian researcher has presented a new
method for treating wastewater from urban landfills using native reeds (Phragmites australis).
