Iran aims to become regional centre for food security

The country is ready to share experience in rural development

The Iranian authorities plan to turn the republic into a centre of food security in West Asia. For this purpose, the country intends to cooperate with relevant international structures. This is reported by
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

Iran’s Deputy Agriculture Minister Hooshang Mohammadi was speaking at the FAO’s 34th Executive Committee (EC) and 24th Governing Council (GC) meeting in Thailand. The official noted that if FAO provides necessary support to the republic, the country will be able to activate production units that ensure the security of the region.

Iran’s relevant request is scheduled to be included in the agenda of FAO’s discussions, the publication said. The republic is ready to share its experience in rural development with its neighbours.

Earlier, FAO said Iran will produce more than 21 million tonnes of cereals in 2023 and ranks fourth in terms of cereal reserves in Asia.
