International symposium on technology and AI in the field of journalism is held in Tunisia

Experts called for the safe use of artificial intelligence to develop journalistic content

The international symposium on the topic “The Role of Modern Technologies and Artificial Intelligence in the Development of Journalistic Content for News Agencies” was organised by
Tunis Afrique Press (TAP), a partner of TV BRICS, as part of its one-year term as president of the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) and took place on May 23.

It was attended by 10 news agencies and several TV channels from Mediterranean countries, as well as a large number of experts and representatives of startups in the field of artificial intelligence.

The Director General of the Union of News Agencies of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Mohammed Al-Yami, noted that more and more attention is being paid to the development of artificial intelligence. He also stressed the importance of the participation of news agencies in the technological process and promptly reporting facts and news while ensuring transparency and reliability.

In turn, Daria Ivankova, Director of the Media Network’s International Cooperation Department, stressed that artificial intelligence is increasingly being used in the production of audiovisual content, noting that generative AI presents both opportunities and risks that require serious assessment. According to the director of the department, TV BRICS already has experience implementing AI in various sections of its portal, such as BRICS View.

“The media network’s staff use an AI-based programme for dubbing video clips, which helps significantly simplify and speed up this process. Additionally, TV BRICS uses artificial intelligence for creating TV show intros and illustrations for the website’s textual materials.”

The symposium also discussed the need to adopt laws and codes to protect the rights of journalists in the context of the distribution of software and applications using artificial intelligence, noting the lack of legislation and international agreements regulating the use of artificial intelligence tools and protecting journalists from plagiarism.
