International jazz festival of BRICS countries to be held in Kazan

The event is held on the eve of the BRICS summit

From 28 to 30 August Kazan will host the festival “Congress of Dixielands and Ethno-jazz Ensembles from BRICS Countries in Russia”. TV BRICS is the international media partner of the event.

The event is organised by the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Kazan City Hall. The festival operator is the Roscongress Foundation.

The event is included in the calendar of Russia’s BRICS presidency and is a precursor to the BRICS summit to be held in Kazan on 22-24 October. The festival organisers want to demonstrate the unifying role of jazz in the modern world, as well as the cultural richness and diversity of Russia and Tatarstan.

During the “Dixielands Convention”, streets, parks and other urban spaces will become concert venues for bands from Russia, BRICS countries, as well as from Cuba, Madagascar, Nigeria, Ecuador and Jamaica. Both professional musicians and student ensembles are expected to participate.

The festival will open with a “Jazz Reception”. The event will bring together representatives of the diplomatic corps, young musicians and representatives of Kazan’s cultural community. On the same day there will be a screening of films dedicated to jazz.

The second day’s programme consists of concerts and performances at various outdoor and indoor venues in the city. In the evening, a Dixieland parade will take place in the central streets of Kazan. The day will end with a big concert on the stage at the old Kamala Theatre.

Jazz band performances will continue on the final third day of the festival, including on a pleasure boat and a double-decker bus. The musicians will also take part in the City Day and Republic of Tatarstan Day celebrations. The centrepiece of the festivities will be a performance by the BRICS Consolidated International Orchestra.
