Indonesia aims to attract more Iranian tourists

9,230 Iranians visited Indonesia in 2024

Indonesia is stepping up efforts to increase the number of Iranian visitors as arrivals continue to grow, as reported by
Tehran Times, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to Adfikri Kevin Marvel, a diplomat at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 9,230 Iranians visited Indonesia in 2024, marking a 28 per cent rise compared to 7,177 in 2023.

One key strategy has been organising familiarisation trips for Iranian travel agencies and tour operators. As part of this effort, Iranian representatives were invited to Bali and Lombok, where they engaged with local businesses and government officials to ensure that tourism services align with Iranian travellers’ needs.

While some Southeast Asian countries, such as Thailand, have previously operated routes to Iran, there is speculation that Malaysia may soon reintroduce direct flights.

Both nations are also working through diplomatic channels to promote Iran as a travel destination for Indonesian tourists.
