India’s mining output rises 8 per cent year-on-year

Chromite, copper concentrate, gold, zinc concentrate and manganese ore, showed positive growth in February 2024

India’s mining index rose to 139,6 in February 2024, an increase of 8 per cent over February 2023. This is reported by
IANS, a partner of TV BRICS.

According to the Ministry of Mines, non-fuel minerals such as bauxite (aluminium), chromite, copper concentrate, gold, zinc concentrate and manganese ore showed positive growth in February 2024 compared to the same month of the previous year. Iron ore and limestone account for 80 per cent of the total production value and these key minerals have seen significant growth in February 2024.

India is the world’s second largest aluminium producer, third largest limestone producer and fourth largest iron ore producer.

The growth in iron ore and limestone production reflects strong demand from industries such as steel and cement, reflecting strong economic activity in sectors such as power, infrastructure, construction, automotive and engineering.
